Best Motocross Tracks in the Southeast
I've coached at motocross tracks in every state across the Southeast. Some of them I'd drive five hours to ride again. Some of them I wouldn't send my worst enemy to. The good news is the Southeast is absolutely loaded with quality tracks, and the variety of dirt and terrain here is unmatched anywhere else in the country.
Here are the tracks I know firsthand, the ones we bring MX Factory clinics to, and why each one is worth your time.
Which Florida Tracks Have the Best Sand?
All of them. That's the joke, and it's also true.
Florida is sand country. If you can ride fast in Florida sand, you can ride fast anywhere. The deep stuff builds leg strength, punishes lazy throttle control, and makes you earn every single lap.
74 MX in Punta Gorda sits in southwest Florida and delivers a legit SX/MX layout with classic sugar sand. Well-maintained and challenging enough to keep experienced riders honest. I love coaching here because the sand forces riders to confront their body position issues. You can't fake it in sand.
Spyder MX in Bushnell is a Florida staple. Great jump variety, solid rhythm sections, and close enough to the Orlando/Tampa corridor that it draws a good crowd. This track rewards smooth riding.
MotoBros in Okeechobee is out in the middle of Florida ranch country. Remote, but the track is worth every mile of that drive. Deep sand, big jumps, and a layout that rewards technique over horsepower.
Waldo MX in Waldo is up near Gainesville and has been a north Florida favorite for years. If you're in the Jacksonville or Gainesville area, this is your home track.
Where Should I Ride in Georgia and Alabama?
Scrub N Dirt MX in Monroe, Georgia is east of Atlanta on red Georgia clay. Grippy when dry, slick as glass when wet. Solid layout, well-groomed, and close enough to the metro area that you can ride and be home for dinner. Tre McCollough runs our clinics here, and his Foundations approach works perfectly for the technical clay corners this track throws at you.
Monster Mountain MX in Tallassee, Alabama is one of the most well-known tracks in the entire Southeast. Between Montgomery and Auburn, this place has hosted national-level events. Elevation changes, technical sections, and a track surface that rewards smooth riding. I've coached here enough times to know every rut on this track, and it still challenges me every visit.
What Makes North Carolina So Good for Motocross?
North Carolina might be the most underrated motocross state in the Southeast. The western mountains give you elevation and cooler temps. The piedmont gives you clay with grip. And the riding community runs deep.
| Track | Location | Dirt Type | Best Season | What Makes It Stand Out |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Elevation MX | Brasstown (mountains) | Rocky red clay | May through October | Appalachian foothills, cooler temps, gorgeous setting |
| County Line MX | Bolton (coast) | Sandy coastal soil | Year-round | Different feel than inland clay, solid winter option |
| NC Motorsports Park | Henderson (piedmont) | Classic SE clay | Spring and fall | Great for all skill levels, between Raleigh and Virginia |
| Top Gun MX Park | Iron Station (west Charlotte) | Clay/loam mix | Spring and fall | Draws from huge Charlotte metro base, technical layout |
We run clinics at all four NC tracks. Tre McCollough coaches at Top Gun, and I handle the others. If you're in the Carolinas, you have options within driving distance no matter where you live.
Are the Tennessee Tracks Worth the Drive?
Yes. Absolutely yes.
Fast Farms MX in Altamont sits on the Cumberland Plateau. Cooler summer temps than the lowland Southeast, solid clay-based surface, and accessible from Nashville, Chattanooga, and Knoxville. I look forward to coaching here because the dirt is just good. It does what you expect it to do, which is rare.
R3 Moto Works in Allardt is deeper into the plateau. More remote, more rugged, and a track that tests your ability to adapt. Tre McCollough runs our clinics at both Tennessee tracks, and his style fits the technical layouts perfectly.
Tennessee is a sleeper motocross state. The tracks are legit, the weather is manageable, and the riding community is growing fast.
How Do I Pick the Right One?
Ride the closest one first. Seriously. Don't overthink it. Every track on this list will teach you something different about your riding. The sand at 74 MX will expose your throttle habits. The clay at Scrub N Dirt will punish sloppy corners. The elevation at Brasstown will test your fitness.
That variety is actually one of the best things about riding in the Southeast. If you only ride one type of dirt, you become a one-trick rider. This region won't let you get away with that.
We run Technique Tour clinics at all of these tracks throughout the year. Check the schedule, find the one nearest you, and come ride. I'll see you there.
